GA trailed 8-7 at halftime, before Westminster built a 12-8 second-half edge.

"Angie and Annie got hot in the second half and our defensive play was great," GA coach Melissa Anderson said. "Our players realized what their energy could do to change the outcome of the game."

Anderson said senior middie Izzy Nixon, who had seven draw controls and forced three turnovers, was the "unsung hero of the game." Izzy Viola and Julia Conway also gave the Gators a lift defensively.

LOOMIS CHAFFEE 16, SACRED HEART 10: Katie Miller scored three goals and Emma Novick tallied twice for the Tigers, who led 6-5 at halftime. Host Loomis Chaffee came out strong in the second half, outscoring CSH, 11-4.

"The first half we were doing great on the draw controls and were finishing our shots," Sacred Heart Courtney DePeter said. "The second half, they won a bunch of draws in a row and took control."

Haley Horn had one goal and three assists, while Alice Millerchip, Mo Leitner, Katie Burkett and Colleen O'Neill each added single goals for the Tigers. Amanda Crowell made seven saves for CSH, which visits FAA foe Hamden Hall Monday.

BASEBALL

Brunswick School raised its record to 3-0 with a 10-4 road victory against Choate Rosemary Hall.

The Bruins batted around during their five-run second inning and had 10 hits for the game. Ryan Hanrahan, Michael Marzonie and Connor Redahan each had two hits, while Teddy Sabato had one hit and two RBI for the Bruins. Teddy Maynard, Hanrahan, Wilson Salomon and Redahan each drove in a run for the victors.

Marzonie struck out five in six innings for Brunswick, which received a scoreless seventh inning from Will O'Brien.

"Choate's a good hitting team, so for Michael to overpower them was fantastic," Bruins coach Johnny Montanez said. "He hit his spots and got ahead of the hitters. His fastball was extremely live."

Montanez also liked what he saw from the lineup.

"The first inning we saw a lot of pitches and the second inning the middle of the order hit the ball hard," Montanez said. "Our boys can hit -- 1-9 in the order, it's great."

The Bruins will host Hamden Hall on Tuesday in a rematch of last year's FAA semifinals.

BOYS LACROSSE

After a pair of tough losses, Brunswick got back on the winning track, defeating visiting Loomis Chaffee, 12-5, on Saturday.

Marshall Dickson and Andrew Buckanavage each recorded a hat trick with two assists, while Reilly Walsh had one goal and two assists for the Bruins (2-3).

"It was a great win for us, we needed to play a good win after a couple of tough losses," Bruins coach David Bruce said. "I'm proud of how our guys bounced back after the loss to Hill (Academy)."

Anders Ashforth, Cam Stafford, Alex Kelly, Jamie DeNault and Hayes Murphy each had one goal for Brunswick, which received seven saves from goalie Tommy Heidt. The Bruins held Loomis scoreless in the first half. Brunswick will host New England rival Taft School on Tuesday.

GIRLS WATER POLO

Greenwich High School jumped out to a big lead and never looked back in coasting to a 17-3 victory over visiting Hopkins School on Saturday.

Harvard University-bound Hollis Jomo and Claire Baxter, who will play water polo next year at Claremont McKenna College, scored four goals apiece for the Cardinals.

Ella Jomo and Madison Ellsworth contributed two goals apiece for the Cardinals, who led 12-2 at halftime. Paige Neary, Rachel Sodokoff, Meg Robinson, Sarah Commaroto and Grace Leigh each added single goals for Greenwich (3-1). Prior to their game against Hotchkiss, GHS was edged by New York Athletic Club, 10-7. NYAC featured a team of college graduates. Neary scored four times, while Hollis Jomo had two goals and Sodokoff had one.

"In the beginning of the game, I think it was a case of nerves since we were playing against older athletes," Greenwich coach Bill Harris said. "But as the game went on we started to counter attack and gained some more confidence."

Goalie Nicole Cutler made 10 saves against Hopkins and stopped seven shots against NYAC.
